Patient FAQ's

Why did I receive a bill from St. Joseph Dermatopathology?

You received a bill because we performed a microscopic evaluation on one or more tissue samples sent to us by your Dermatologist. We are not associated with your Dermatologist, we are a seperate and independent entity.

Why did my Dermatologist send you my tissue sample?

Microscopic evaluation of the tissue is the best way to determine the correct diagnosis. In the majority of cases the findings are of a benign nature but since diseases of the skin can often look very similar it is generally in the patient's best interest to have a microscopic evaluation to be sure of the diagnosis.

How can I get my tissue sample sent to St. Joseph Dermpath?

If you want your tissue sample sent to us just tell your doctor. If he/she does not already send biopsies to us just ask him to call us and we will provide them with everything they need to send us your biopsy.

What if my tissue sample was already processed by another lab?

If your tissue sample was already processed by another lab but you feel uncomfortable with the diagnosis or just want a second opinion, just tell your doctor that you want materials for a second opinion sent to us. Again, if your doctor is not currently sending biopsies to us they can just call us and we will provide them with what they need.

What insurance do you accept?

We accept Medicare and Medicaid and some of the Medicare and Medicaid replacement plans. We accept the majority of the PPO, PFFS (Private Fee For Service), and Indemnity plans. We accept some HMO and POS plans. When you call to make an appointment we will tell you if we participate with your plan or if in doubt, we will contact your plan to verify participation.

What methods of payment do you offer?

We accept check, credit card, or money order by mail. We accept credit card payment, and electronic check over the phone with no surcharge added or you can click on the "Billing" tab above which will provide a link where you can pay online.

How can I get my results?

Request results from your dermatologist. Your dermatologist will be able to answer any questions you may have regarding your results.
